We've been making fish this way for years, with my personal favorite, big batch of buttery cheddar garlic drop biscuits and a green salad over a bed of jasmine rice in the instant pot.

I love a good fancy dinner like seafood lobster pot pie, (also made with cheesy garlic biscuits) but this is the EASIEST and most delicious way to make tilapia.
Stove top is the fastest, most reliable way to make this recipe, as an air fryer will only fit 1-2 fillets and an oven takes awhile to preheat.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Taste: The lemon and pepper are the star of this show, along with my secret ingredient, Worcestershire sauce. It's just a little bit but it's SO lovely!
- Ease: A few simple steps! No oven required, although you're welcome to use one if you wish.
- Time: 4-5 minutes per side, about 10 minutes cooking time. 15 minutes total! Quicker than an oven or air fryer which would require 2 batches.
🛒 Ingredient Notes

- Worcestershire Sauce - this is my secret ingredient. A sprinkle at the end of cooking is all you need to make the tilapia go from good to AMAZING.
- Pepper - I will insist on freshly ground, it tastes poppy and definitely better than pre-ground for this recipe.
See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
✏️ Substitutions & Variations
- Use fresh herbs! We love parsley, but sage, dill, or thyme would taste amazing.
- You can leave out the Worcestershire sauce to be gluten free/friendly.
🧑🍳 Instructions

- Step 1. Mix all spices together in a bowl. Heat a large frying pan over medium heat for 1 minute, then add olive oil.

- Step 2. Sprinkle seasonings over both sides of the tilapia, then place in heated frying pan.

- Step 3. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until fish is cooked all the way through (145℉). Sprinkle a little Worcestershire sauce over each fillet before removing from heat.

- Step 4. Zest a lemon over the fish fillets, and sprinkle fresh parsley over before serving. Serve with lemon slices. Enjoy!
TIP: Make sure to sprinkle on the Worcestershire sauce at the end of cooking, too soon and it can make the bottom of the pan sticky and burny before the fish is fully cooked.
📌 Troubleshooting
- Dry fish: cooked at too high of heat or overcooked - fix - adjust time & use internal temp checks with an instant read thermometer.
- Fish sticking to pan: not enough heat or oil - fix - preheat pan, THEN put oil on, make sure it's enough.
- Weak flavor: under-seasoning - fix - add zest, finish with fresh lemon juice.
❄️ Make Ahead, Store, and Freezing Tips
Refrigerate: up to 4-5 days. This recipe is great for meal prepping!
Freeze: up to 4 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in pan (covered) for 2-3 minutes or microwave.
❓Frequently Asked Questions
Usually 10ish minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. It should have an internal temp of 140-145℉.
Technically yes, but I don't recommend it as the bake time will be off and it doesn't get the nice crispy outside. Thawing will cause all of the seasonings to run off in the oven and it won't have as much flavor.
I usually love to have either a starch (potatoes) or grain (rice) with a roasted veggie or salad. More options are in the Serving Ideas section below!
🍽️ Serving Ideas
- This is fantastic with pilaf, couscous, jasmine rice or cilantro lime brown rice.
- You can never go wrong serving it with green salad and high protein cottage cheese ranch or avocado lime tomatillo ranch.
- So so good with red skin mashed potatoes and my quick easy brown gravy.
- Veggies!
