Easy, fluffy Jasmine Rice in the Instant Pot with zero guesswork. No slow release required! THis is a fast, hands-off, foolproof method.
If you've never had jasmine rice before, let THIS be the recipe you use. I also have a recipe for stove top cilantro lime brown rice, but I don't use that one as much for Asian foods.

I had never heard rice described as fragrant before, but this is a delicious, buttery smelling rice, without any butter. The best way I can think to describe it is almost like popcorn. Or like butter and toasted nuts.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Taste: Notes of butter, soft and perfectly cooked.
- Ease: Set it and release it as soon as it's done. No stovetop required!
- Time: 9 minutes to cook once the instant pot comes to pressure. Less than 20 minutes total.
📝 Ingredient Notes

- Jasmine Rice - known as the "aromatic" rice from Thailand. It's a longer grain of rice that's slightly sticky when cooked and it goes AMAZING with asian food.
- Chicken broth - you can use store bought or homemade, I like to make instant pot chicken broth and use it for recipes like this.
See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
✏️ Substitutions & Variations
- Use water or vegetable broth in place of chicken broth.
- Don't use Minute Jasmine Rice for this recipe.
- Coconut Jasmine Rice - add a few Tablespoons of coconut milk in place of the water or chicken broth.
- Garlic Butter Jasmine Rice - add 2 Tablespoons of butter and ½ teaspoon garlic powder before cooking.
- Cilantro Lime Jasmine Rice - Substitute ¼ cup lime juice in place of the water/chicken broth and add a Tablespoon of chopped cilantro when it's finished cooking. Yum!
⚙️ Instant Pot Settings Explained
Pressure Cook vs Rice Button
- Manual pressure cooking is more consistent.
- Rice button can vary by model, so it's more reliable to manually set the time.
Natural Release vs Quick Release
- Natural release = rice will cook longer, takes more time.
- Quick release = helps to stop cooking process.
🧑🍳 Instructions

- Step 1. Combine jasmine rice and chicken broth in instant pot.

- Step 2. Set the Instant Pot to cook on high pressure for 9 minutes, making sure the pressure release valve is set to "seal".
Tip
Start with cold/room temperature water, just so it standardizes the time it takes to cook the rice. If start with warm or hot water, it could overcook.

- Step 3. No natural release needed, you can switch the pressure valve to "vent" and let the pressure release. Remove lid and fluff rice with a fork before serving. Enjoy!
Tips for perfect Jasmine Rice
- Fluff with a fork, not a spoon
- Use the right ratio
- Don't skip quick release
📌 Troubleshooting
- Why is my rice mushy? - Too much water or undercooked.
- Why is my rice dry or undercooked? - Not enough water or not enough cook time.
- Rice is sticky/clumpy - too much starch, make sure you fluff with a fork and release excess steam by letting it sit uncovered for 2-3 minutes after cooking.
❄️ Make Ahead, Store, Reheating Tips
Refrigerate:up to 4 days.
Freeze: up to 2 months.
To Thaw: Add splash of water and microwave covered.
❓Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Since it's already a slightly sticky variety of rice, it is fine if you skip the rinse to save time.
This could be because there wasn't enough water or the rice started to overcook.
As long as your Instant Pot can handle the capacity, yes.
🍽️ Serving Ideas
- With stuffed pepperjack chicken or grilled chicken.
- Any Asian food, it goes with so many things! Stir fry, curries, etc.
- As a side with grilled protein like steak, salmon, chicken, and steamed veggies.
