Chocolate spider web cookies are a super fun chocolate chip Halloween cookie recipe that are fudgy, filled with chocolate chips, and white chocolate webs!
Preheat the oven to 350℉ and prepare 2 baking sheets with baking spray or parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and white granulated sugar. Use an electric mixer (if using a stand mixer use paddle attachment) to cream the butter and sugar on medium/high speed for 3 minutes, until it becomes lighter in color and fluffy.
Add in the eggs and vanilla, and mix well on medium speed until the eggs are fully mixed in and the mixture becomes fluffy again, about 1-2 minutes.
Add in the cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt and mix until incorporated.
Add in the flour, mixing slowly for 1-2 minutes until there are no flour pockets left.
Add in the chocolate chips and mix on low speed until they're mixed in evenly through the cookie dough.
Scoop the cookie dough onto baking sheets prepared with baking spray or parchment paper, 12 cookies to a pan. I use a 1.5 Tablepsoon cookie scoop to make 24-30 cookies.Bake at 350 ℉ for 8-10 minutes, underbaking is better than overbaking!
Cool the cookies at least 10 minutes. Melt the white chocolate in a plastic zip close bag or disposable piping bag for 15-30 seconds in the microwave, and squish around until there are no chunks left. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag and pipe a spiral shape onto about 5 cookies. It's alright if the cookies are still a bit warm.* When making the spiral shape, make a little dollop in the center of each cookie with chocolate before starting the spiral to the rest of the cookie. This helps to make sure there's enough chocolate for the web!
Using a toothpick, start from the center of each cookie and drag a line of chocolate outwards from the center. I did about 6 lines per cookie. Do it in batches of 5-6 cookies, so there is time to feather the chocolate before it hardens.Let the cookies rest for 15-20 minutes to let the chocolate harden, then they are ready to enjoy!
Notes
You can put fun sprinkles on the cookies before the chocolate cools, or place on plastic spiders to make spooky Halloween cookies.Store for up to 3 days at room temperature. NOTE: Make sure not to warm up the white chocolate for too long (more than 20-30 seconds) in the microwave or it will seize and not be useable. If it hardens, you'll need to start over with new chocolate chips.
